Tim Tebow couldn’t go to prom with a fan, so he surprised her with something better

Tim Tebow had an incredible surprise for a die-hard fan when he appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday. Every year Tebow’s foundation hosts Night to Shine, an event to celebrate people with special needs and hold a prom dance. This year he was contacted by Judy, who asked him to prom — but he wasn’t able to attend due to his speaking and baseball commitments. On TV he decided to make things right.

The greatest concern with the delay may not involve either the Rams or Chargers. The Super Bowl is supposed to be played at the new stadium in 2021. NFL rules say that a stadium cannot host a Super Bowl in its inaugural season, and would need a waiver from the league to get around that.

Myles Garrett, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft, signed with the Cleveland Browns on Friday.

Eric Weddle Kids Jersey According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Garrett’s contract is for four years and worth $30.4 million, with a signing bonus of $20.25 million. That’s not the most interesting part of him signing with the Browns though.

In signing Garrett, the Browns have now locked six of their draft picks into contracts. Jabrill Peppers, David Njoku, DeShone Kizer, and Caleb Brantley are the only rookies who remain unsigned.

The Browns will hope Garrett works out better than recent first-round selections. Players like Trent Richardson, Brandon Weeden, Johnny Manziel, and Justin Gilbert are just some of the busts from the past few years.

Garrett was arguably the only safe pick of the draft, and even the Browns couldn’t mess this one up.

Let’s take a look back at the Mets’ now infamous week that was.

Wednesday: Yoenis Cespedes is recovering from a hamstring injury, after aggravating it on April 20. The slugger had sat out three games and was visibly in pain during batting practice.

Ray-Ray Armstrong Authentic Jersey Mets management: Hamstring injuries never linger. He’s our most important offensive player. Get him in there Wednesday night! Wait, a 1:10 start on Thursday? Pencil him in!

Cespedes inevitably pulls the hamstring again while running out a double Thursday afternoon and has to be helped off the field. He’ll now miss an extended period on the DL (unless they bring him back too early, which is a significant possibility).

Decades of misery seemed to be coming to an end, first with Griffin, then with Cousins. They took off like a meteor behind Griffin. Then, after the debris from the ensuing implosion finally settled, they took off again with Cousins. No, there was never a playoff win amidst it all. There were a handful of soul-crushing losses; the ones down the stretch against the Panthers and Giants, when Cousins was far from masterful, were not pleasant to endure.

But there was hope, if management didn’t mess things up with Cousins, who they supposedly loved so much that they made Griffin walk the plank in favor of him. And if they smoothed out this area and that and made it a destination franchise, with a quarterback to climb on board with.

Goodell would soon have even more reason to smile based upon how the draft unfolded.

That’s the next chapter in Howard’s story, which has been good so far. He’s the small-town country star who made it at the biggest program in the FBS. He seems comfortable with the NFL stage, and he’s taking a lesson learned along the way.

“Always be thankful and always making the most of the opportunity,” Howard said.

Goodell would soon have even more reason to smile based upon how the draft unfolded.

After Cleveland’s expected selection of Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett with the top overall pick, a trade occurred that provided the kind of shock missing in previous drafts.

Chicago’s move to No. 2 and subsequent selection of North Carolina quarterback Mitchell Trubisky was the first of several bold moves that kept fans on the edge of their seats wondering what might happen next.

After other eye-opening deals involving new quarterbacks for Kansas City (Pat Mahomes) and Houston (Deshaun Watson) came the draft’s two most poignant player moments.

Raised by foster parents during his teenage years as an at-risk youth, Garett Bolles overcame long odds to become a top tackle at the University of Utah. The magnitude of his journey combined with being chosen at No. 20 by Denver had Bolles weeping long before the congratulatory phone call from the Broncos had ended.

Bolles then generated another memorable moment when the 6-foot-5, 297-pound behemoth carried his tiny four-month-old son Kingston on the stage with him for Goodell’s jersey presentation.

Maybe Kaepernick and Cutler need to check out the brunch spots in The Big Easy.

EJ Manuel, somewhat of a draft bust himself, just signed a one-year deal with the Raiders for $800,000 and nothing guaranteed. Regardless of whatever playing ability Manziel still has, he likely would have to accept a deal for even less, especially considering the off-field concerns and, yep, distractions he would present his new team. Manziel also would be cheaper than 35-year-old Saints backup QB Luke McCown, who carries a cap hit of $1.75 million in 2017.

Though the cost necessary to sign Kaepernick or Jay Cutler as a backup remains unclear, we know both can demand more than Manziel can, given his far inferior NFL standing.

Of course, there’s no need to freak out over a reported breakfast meeting. That’s all we know about the Saints’ apparent interest, and it’s not much.

And while it’s not fair to pessimistically presume Manziel would revert to his self-damaging habits in New Orleans, it is fair to doubt his ability to play not only in the NFL, but in an offense so reliant on its quarterback’s ability.

Maybe Kaepernick and Cutler need to check out the brunch spots in The Big Easy.

Lynn is a somewhat-forgotten Hall of Fame candidate, receiving 5.5 percent of the vote his first year on the Baseball Writers’ Association of America ballot in 1996. He dipped below 5 percent the next year, which disqualified him from future consideration with the writers. He’s yet to appear on a Veterans Committee ballot.

Game Youth Josh Robinson Jersey Lynn’s sabermetric numbers — 50 WAR, 44.1 JAWS and 94 Hall Rating — all paint him as a very good, though not great player who fell just short of Cooperstown.

But if he’d played a full career in Boston, Lynn might have long since been in the Hall of Fame. To some extent, his career is one of the great what-ifs in baseball history.

Why: After those initial bright years in Boston, including 1975 when he won the American League Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player awards, Lynn had a vastly different second half of his career.

Dallas Keuchel’s arm, Josh Reddick’s catch propel Astros to win over Indians

Authentic Youth Kyle Van Noy Jersey Dallas Keuchel appears to be returning to his Cy Young-like form after a dismal 2016 season had the Astros re-evaluating the ceiling of their ace left-hander.

Keuchel moved to 4-0 on the season and lowered his ERA to 1.22 following a complete game against the Indians Tuesday to extend his promising start to the season. The 29-year-old gave up solo homers to Austin Jackson, Michael Brantley for Cleveland’s only runs in a 4-2 Astros victory. Keuchel nearly gave up another homer to Jason Kipnis had it not been for an amazing catch by Josh Reddick.

Reddick boosted the Astros with his bat as well, giving Houston a 3-1 lead with a two-run single in the fifth, a lead they would not relinquish to move to 10-2 since April 11 and sit atop the American League West at 14-6.

While playing for the 49ers, Kaepernick sparked a national debate over racial injustice by refusing to stand for the American flag and national anthem. The move outraged some NFL fans, who then blamed the league for not cracking down on Kaepernick.

Casey Hayward Game Jersey Some #BoycottNFL fans vowed to change the channel from NFL games and stop buying products from league sponsors. There’s been a long and acrimonious debate about whether the Kaepernick Effect has hurt the NFL.

But the bottom line is that TV ratings for the formerly invincible NFL fell 8 percent last season, forcing TV partners to cough up expensive make-goods to advertisers.

Kaepernick reportedly plans to stand for the flag/anthem this season if he’s signed by an NFL team.

Lee, the director of Do the Right Thing, is not buying the that argument Kaepernick has hurt the league.

MLB closer news: Zach Britton to rejoin Orioles for Red Sox series

Once he returned, though, he steadily progressed through the Nationals’ organization and climbed back up prospect rankings, to the point where he made his MLB debut last fall 鈥?he had a 6.75 ERA in six appearances (four starts) for Dusty Baker’s club 鈥?and then was the centerpiece in the Eaton trade in December. McCatty, now his pitching coach in Charlotte, was the Nationals’ big-league pitching coach from 2009 to 2015 and is very familiar with Giolito from their time together in that organization.

In essence, he reminds me a lot of Stephen Strasburg, because everybody expects them to be what everybody else thinks they should be, and not what they are, McCatty said. As a young man with that stuff, he’s still learning.
The first-place Orioles are about to get even stronger.

All-Star closer Zach Britton is set to rejoin the team Monday in Boston and will be activated from the disabled list by Tuesday at the latest, manager Buck Showalter told reporters Sunday.

Game Youth Langston Galloway Jersey Britton worked a scoreless inning for Double-A Bowie on Sunday, the final step in his return from a forearm strain that landed him on the DL two weeks ago.

While the Orioles have held steady alongside the Yankees atop the American League East in Britton’s absence, their bullpen is coming off a rough weekend in New York. The Orioles blew a three-run ninth-inning lead Friday before losing in the 10th, then surrendered a pair of runs in the ninth on Sunday before pulling out a win in the 11th.

Limited Womens Carl Nassib Jersey Brad Brach picked up four saves in Britton’s absence, but he’ll slide back into his accustomed setup role with the lefty set to return.

Chris Berman’s wife, Kathy, killed in car wreck

Kathy Berman, the wife of longtime ESPN studio host and broadcaster Chris Berman, was killed in a two-car wreck Tuesday. She was 67.

“This is a devastating tragedy and difficult to comprehend,” ESPN president John Skipper said in a statement. “Chris is beloved by all his ESPN colleagues and for good reason: he has a huge heart and has given so much to so many over the years. We know how much his family means to him and all we can do at a moment like this is give him the love and support he will surely need at this hour. Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris, Meredith, Doug and the entire family.”

Reid does not believe Mahomes is ready to start in the NFL, sticking with Smith despite the Chiefs losing in the playoffs to the Pittsburgh Steelers, who did not score a touchdown in their 18-16 win, last season.

“It’s a great night. A great day. We are fired up, man.”

“Right now Patrick isn’t absolutely ready to play — he’s got some work to do,” Reid said. “He’s going into a great room … he can learn from Alex.

“We have to be patient with him. Tremendous upside. Good person, intelligent with great skill.

“I don’t worry about Alex on this. Alex knows we trust him. Alex is the starting quarterback. Nothing is going to change there. The kid is going to take some time. He understands that.

“But there’s going to be a day Alex isn’t playing anymore and we’ll need someone to step in and play.”

On comparisons between Mahomes and legendary Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre, Reid said: “I’m not into comparisons — they’re different players. Brett’s a Hall of Fame player and this kid has a long way to go before that, but I think when you have an opportunity to talk to him and be around him, he has an energy and certain intensity you like.”

Running back Jamaal Charles reportedly set to visit Broncos

Texas Tech’s Patrick Mahomes is a big-armed, poor fundamental quarterback. Last time we checked, Alex Smith was not either of those things. Andy Reid sees some Brett Favre qualities in Mahomes, but the coach’s offense is based on rhythm, footwork and good decision-making. Mahomes is a major project for whom to trade up.

Howard was supposed to go much earlier than No. 19 to the Buccaneers as the first Alabama player taken, but as a luxury tight end pick, he was third off the board from the Tide. He was doomed to free-fall as soon as the Bills traded out of No. 10.

On the bright side, he’s a great fit as another big, field-stretching target for Jameis Winston.

Jamaal Charles might be spinning and juking his way to a division rival.

Limited Kids Paul Kariya Jersey Adam Schefter reports that the Broncos are enthused about the visit.

Charles would be an interesting and good fit in Denver. With C.J. Anderson and Devontae Booker in the mix, Charles, who has torn his ACL multiple times, can stay fresh, while hopefully still providing his patented explosiveness.

And the Broncos will certainly need as many rushing weapons as they can get, with Trevor Siemian, Paxton Lynch or Chad Kelly lining up under center.

If it’s fathomable, those numbers have improved in the playoffs.

Kids you need to watch Kawhi Leonard and learn from him, O’Neal said. This guy right here is a bona fide superstar. A lot of people don’t say it but I’m saying it here right now. Kawhi Leonard is the second-best player in the league.

I don’t think it’s a doubt about that, Barkley responded. LeBron’s the best player in the world, but that kid right there — offense, defense, he does it all.
Leonard has been the driving factor all season long for an aging San Antonio team that posted the NBA’s second-best record and landed the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. The All-Star starter averaged 25.5 points per game on 48.5 percent shooting from the field and 38 percent shooting from downtown on a year-long campaign likely to end with third place in MVP voting.

St. Louis hit the halfway point with 10 shots. The Blues had just four shots on net in the second period, and by the third they were trying to hit anything that moved just to get something going. A lot of Predators will be hurting on Monday morning. That pain is worth it. The Blues were utterly ineffective and likely enraged at how nothing worked for them.

Nashville drained the Blues of all positive emotions and won. The Ducks had to drain their own in a feisty Game 3 in Edmonton. Skim a bit of their emotion off the top before it overflowed.

The hatred was palpable, as you’ll see in a bit. Anger can be used against your opponent if you know how; the Ducks own a wealth of playoff emotional experience the Oilers lack. As the game wore on, the Oilers kept parading to the penalty box and any hope of a completed comeback was dashed.

Celtics vs. Wizards 2017 odds: Streaking Boston a road underdog in Game 3 matchup

Since starting the postseason off with two straight losses, the Boston Celtics are a perfect 6-0 straight up and against the spread over their last six games. The Celtics will try to stay hot in Game 3 against the Washington Wizards on Thursday night.

Boston is a 5.5-point road underdog in Washington at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. This will be just the second time in Boston’s last 26 games that the Celtics are going off as betting underdogs.

Womens Bobby Baun Jersey Following up an offensive explosion in Game 1 that saw the Celtics come away with a 123-111 victory at home, Game 2 was just as exciting. The Celtics and Wizards battled to a 114-114 tie at the end of regulation before Boston blew the game open to win 129-119 in overtime.

The original top three picks based on points dropped heavily. Colorado went from first to fourth overall, the Coyotes fell from second to seventh and the expansion Vegas Golden Knights will pick sixth. The draft will take place in Chicago from June 23-24.

The 2017 NHL draft is considered weaker than past years. No player is a consensus No. 1 pick, though two are ahead of the others at this point: Brandon (WHL) center Nolan Patrick and Halifax (QMJHL) center Nico Hischier. At one point Timothy Liljegren (Sweden) was the consensus best defenseman, but now UMass Amherst recruit Cale Makar claims that title after a thrilling year.

This is also expected to be a good-to-great draft for goalies. Finnish netminder Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen might be the best of the bunch, but Boston University freshman and USA Hockey goalie Jake Oettinger might go first.

We’ll see how it plays out; look for our latest mock draft on Monday morning.
